Hi Folks. Glad you came by. It’s my birthday today, so thanks for sharing it with me. In return, I’d like to share a couple of things with you.

First, I’m hard at work writing a novel. Throughout a good part of my adult life I’ve wished that I could simply stay at home and write. Well, I couldn’t, because I was a single mom of three kids. We were on our own since they were all under five years of age, and I had to work to support us. As they got older, I did spend time in the evenings writing, but honestly, I let too much of life distract me. Excuses aside, time passed, my children grew up, my career got more demanding.

Then life went completely sideways. When it does this, it never gives you any warning. It just happens. Suddenly, I found myself sitting at home with a new label, “disabled”. It took me a few years to wrap my head around it all. It felt like starting from scratch. Getting my head on straight, rebuilding my image of myself, learning I could still have a life. It took some time, but finally, IT dawned on me. I’m sitting at home, and I can WRITE!! In a very weird and twisted way, I got my wish.

So, I started this blog, and I started my novel. It’s a Thriller entitled A Stranger Watches. Of course, I think it has a wonderful premise, in a scary way. I’m over 30,000 words in and going strong. It’s a very satisfying feeling. I’m really doing it.  Yay, me!

I’m also dipping back into poetry. For me, poetry is very personal and soul-baring. It can be difficult to share these, so kudos to all you poets out there. I posted a piece a couple weeks ago, and almost didn’t push that publish button. It was pretty scary. Today, I offer to you the very first poem I can remember writing, when I was  about 10 years old. It’s very short, but sweet. I was inspired by a picture similar to the one below.

blue grey seashore

By the blue-grey seashore,
I sat and dreamed of you.

I watched the beauty of the Earth,
And wondered if you knew.

Take care,

Linda Williams Stirling
